Daytime Arcade Adventure

I’ll be honest with you, as I creep closer and closer to my 45th year, I have no desire to be out on a weekend night and, most definitely, not out with those in their tender 20’s. My idea of a good weekend is to pack up my daytime with lots of fun and stay in on the evenings. That’s where the arcade comes in! The Emporium in Wicker Park, Logan Square and Fulton Market neighborhoods open at 3 PM on Fridays and 12pm on Saturdays and Sundays. At this lunchtime hour, one is blissfully unaware of the total nut job craziness of this environment in the late evening hours. During daylight hours, there is rarely a wait on BurgerTime (my all time favorite) or Ms. Pacman. My husband and I will drop 10 bucks for a couple handful of tokens, he’ll order himself a fancy beer and me a soda water with two limes and we are off to sweet video game euphoria! There are even little tables hooked on to the side of the games where on can take a sip of their beverage between torturous rounds of Space Invaders. But where does the togetherness come into play? Dear readers, nothing raises your heart rate more than air hockey or killing it on Tapper with your partner! You will have more laughs playing these games together than sitting on your phone, playing games on the couch. Also, there is something kind of 70’s/80’s sexy watching your loved one lean in on a machine and masterfully cross a busy deadly street in Frogger. White hot.
